so today morning was spent at NUS with my beloved kids. i'm so glad I went because i got to bond with my group :) the kids are so awesome and filled with so much exuberance that it makes me smile whenever I look at them. Sometimes, i just wished PSLE wouldn't be so harsh for them.

anyway, they played games and walked around the NUS campus. of course, they were amazed at how huge it was compared to their school.

look out for the new plane that will be flying the skies!

childishness is just in the genes, really.

then it was popeye's to meet kak sahidah whom i haven't had a nice talk with in so long! so glad i did today. eratkan silaturrahim. kak sahidah, faster upload the two pics!

sunday was fun! alhamdulillah.
went for dinner with 08SPBB. highlight was desert at Chomp Chomp! VERY VERY DELICIOUS. srsly, i recommend everyone to go there and try their mango beancurd and ice kachang(which we had yesterday). yum!
super huge! four of us shared this. haha

mango beancurd!

thanks so much for the discount xinru! and don't worry la, you look glam enough :P

08SPBB! still can talk crap. haha

then from the mosque at bishan i literally ran to coffee bean at junction 8 since my elder bro was waiting for me there. was supposed to treat him since i got my first half-month pay. first time he order medium sized drink sey. haha. the warm chocolate cake that we tried was simply awesome :)
my brother rarely poses for pictures so i shall treasure this.heh

next, went to watch MY NAME IS KHAN with bibik, eldest bro and elder sister.
uber touching! really really enjoyed myself watching it(even cried at some parts). but since it ended at 12 midnight, i was a zombie at work today and no prizes for guessing what I did again at work. haiz. acting by shahrukh khan and kajol was, as usual, superb! great chemistry! simple message put across with a touch of humour. love love love it. what are you waiting for? GO WATCH IT! and this is my first time watching a hindi movie which does NOT have ANY bollywood dancing. cool or what.

i laughed so much yesterday. whoa, such a nice happy feeling :)

first up was family cum cousins' outing at sentosa! it was the best cousin outing ever la, srsly. everyone was all funny and cheery!
awesome activities we played:
- the playing of card games and having to memorise each other's animal names. hahaha. we found out that guys have worse memory than girls :P
- captain's ball on the sand (the best-est activity for me!)
- hiding each other's slippers in the sand. fadilah punya pasal la ni! haha
- building sand castles. bringing out the kid in everyone.
- lots and lots of picture taking
- eating. so much food!

thank you so much my cousins, i love each and everyone of you. and of course, to my makciks and pakciks who prepared the food and made the event even more enjoyable :)

i felt really tired after that and had second thoughts about going for the apex bbq but oh man, i'm so glad i went! company was awesome, food was awesome! the best had to be dessert (brownie and cake plus ice cream!!!!!) played table tennis, captain's ball and taboo. everyone was just so funny and selamba la throughout all the activities so i really really enjoyed myself :D

so yesterday was a (can't describe it in words) day. just the perfect break from work. i feel so blessed to have all these people in my life :)

pictures up another time yeah, when people have uploaded them on facebook. heh.

have a great remaining holidays everyone! love you all :)

hyper!

the kids with my two other sidekicks in the computer lab.

Okay, so this is how I look like at work. Got one time, the head of PE department was standing in front of my desk. He suddenly turned around and said, “Okay I want to order 2 large fries, 1 regular burger”. HAHA.

And today, since I had nothing to do(actually have la, heh), went to the canteen to interact with some of the p1 students and observe them. It was really nice watching the kids run around and being so carefree. They are so innocent! You can tell from the things that they are fascinated at and the things they speak about. How I wish people would stay as innocent as when they were a kid :)

For me, it’s like no matter how much I get annoyed with them for making so much noise, I still love them anyway. Even those whom I don’t know. Guiding the kids to make sure that they're okay and having fun in school.

Plus, I really admire the way teachers control a class of students. Cause I was screaming my head off to one primary 3 class to keep quiet during their music lesson. Then, later on, their form teacher enters the classroom and suddenly everyone is quiet. Whoa, it’s like they can sense their teacher’s aura.

:)

a very big thank you to my elder sister who bought for me headphones which i wanted! awwww, belated birthday present :) i was so excited i bugged her about it and thanked her repeatedly. she got annoyed i think cause she was like, "I think i'll take back those headphones if you won't stop bugging me". HAHAHA

i owe my family a treat since i've gotten my first half-month pay. but i'm so busy i don't know if i'll have the time. My body's having lack of sleep now and it's getting pretty sick :(

i feel happy right now. just glad that everything's going pretty well for me :)

In the 1920s, a crossword puzzle craze swept the American nation that drove some people over the edge: a man shot his wife when she wouldn’t help him and another man killed himself leaving a suicide note in the form of a crossword puzzle.

Here’s the story of how crossword puzzles came to be and why it took over twenty years for The New York Times to convince itself to carry the puzzles.

Origin
Arthur Wynne was a writer for the game page of the New York World at the turn of the 19th century. In 1913, while trying to think up new types of games for the newspaper’s special Christmas edition, he came up with a way to adapt the "word squares" his grandfather had taught him when he was a boy.

Wynne’s puzzle, which he called a "Word-Cross," debuted on Sunday December 21. And it was well-received. Many people wrote in to praise the puzzle. Here's the picture of the world's first World’s First Crossword Puzzle:

Reversal of Fortune
Four weeks after the puzzle first appeared, typesetters at the newspaper inadvertently transposed the words in the title to read "Cross-Word." For some reason, the name stuck – and so did the puzzle.

Though the puzzles were popular with readers, they were decidedly unpopular with editors. Crosswords were difficult to print and were plagued with typographical and other errors.

Enter Simon and Schuster
The next day, he and Schuster went to the World’s offices and made a deal with the paper’s crossword puzzle editors. They would pick the newspaper’s best crossword puzzles and pay $25 apiece for the rights to publish them in a book.

Hot off the Presses
It was literally an overnight success. The World’s crossword puzzlers flocked to stores to get copies, and by the end of the year more than 300,000 crossword books had been sold.

The book turned Simon & Schuster into a major publisher. (Today it’s the largest U.S. publishing house and the second-largest publisher on earth). It also started a major craze. Crossword puzzles became a way of life in the 1920s. Newspaper started adding them to increase circulation. They inspired a Broadway hit called Games of 1925 and a hit song called "Crossword Mama, You Puzzle Me." Sales of dictionaries soared, and foot traffic in libraries increased dramatically. Clothes made with black-and-white checked fabric were the rage. The B&O Railroad put dictionaries on all of its mainline trains for crossword-crazy commuters.

Crossword Casualties
Some folks were driven over the edge by the craze. In 1924, a Chicago woman sued her husband for divorce, claiming "he was so engrossed in solving crosswords that he didn’t have time to work." The judge ordered the man to "limit himself to 3 puzzles a day and devote the rest of his time to domestic duties." In 1925, a New York Telephone Co. employee shot his wife when she wouldn’t help with a crossword puzzle. And in 1926, a Budapest man committed suicide, leaving an explanation in the form of a crossword puzzle. (No one could solve it.) Eventually, the craze died down. It took The New York Times to revive it.

today i asked two boys to get out of the class, even though they gave me begging faces. they recited the multiplication table in my malay class super loudly. really pushed the limit man since i alr gave them countless warnings before to keep quiet.

okay about my job. as a relief teacher....

i have pretty a lot of markings to do.

and as a research assistant...

lots of books to change some name and videos to transcribe(typing out everything that is happening in the video). but okayla, i get a laptop for my own use so it's pretty cool.

and i have awesome colleagues as well so i'm not complaining. but man, i'm so embarrassed. safa uploaded a picture of me sleeping at work on facebook and so many of my colleagues saw it! grrrr. oh wells, i do take short naps once in a while when my eyes just can't open and i'm typing rubbish.

oh ya, any important e-mail now send it to my gmail account k. since i can access it from work but not my hotmail one.

yup, take care all!
