Today I had a wonderful surprise from my family :D I'm supposed to be matured since I'm turning 20 in two days time but of course, the surprise made me scream and shout so much that it ruined my resolution to act mature. Haha! Tadaaaa!!!! A box of purple and white cupcakes with my name on it!
Love it so so much I think I took a million photos with it la :P Purple is my favourite colour and the cupcakes are just so pretty, masyaAllah. Syukur Alhamdulillah. My mum was saying she wanted to make me happy cos I was so sad about turning 20. Haha.. Love love love my family :) May Allah bless them always.. Ameen!
Here's a bit of what I learnt from Ustazah Mariam's class on the month of Zulhijjah :) All were supported by sahih hadiths but I didnt manage to copy down the sources...
1. For the first nine days of Dzulhijjah, the fast of EACH of these days is equal to the fast of a whole year and the worship of EACH of these nights is equal to the worship of Lailatul Qadr. 2. There is no day wherein any good actions is beloved to Allah s.w.t than the first ten days of Zulhijjah so my ustazah says we should do more zikir during these days. 3. On the day of Arafah, there is abundance of descending mercy from Allah s.w.t and Allah forgives the sins of His servants. 4. The fast of Youmul Arafah (9th Zulhijjah) is the atonement of sins for the previous year and the coming year. 5. Whoever performs ibadah on the nights of the two Eid (Aidiladha and Aidilfitri), his heart will not be dead on the day of Qiyaamah when all hearts will be dead.
Kak Zura's baby is so cute!! I was scared to hold her at first cos she looks so fragile. haha. MasyaAllah.. Kak Hanisah cepat2 dapat anak ye lepas kahwin! :P

Heavy heart, you have to hold on Though you don't feel strong Like you don't belong At times feeling belittled But you have to believe That your efforts are beautiful: Never giving up, Always taking things head-on, Ready for that fight, It can take a toll, But you stop, drop, and roll With the punches, Pulling away the ache at your temples, Rearranging your lips into a smile, You go for that extra mile You can, You da woman! You go, Even if you have to take it slow, It will flow. Allah is with you, in this journey to knowledge, Where every step is paved with His pleasure, I gather, that God-willing, You'll be more than okay, The engineer who has to struggle, Do work that is double. But I'm ready to shout out loud: Haslina will be somebody, And everybody will be proud :)
InsyaAllah! Thank you so much Maya for the poem! May Allah bless you :) I am truly touched masyaAllah :)
Going through one of the toughest phases of my life. I predict many more heartbreaks in the future. Gonna have to toughen up this weak heart of mine...
People who become blind after birth can see images in their dreams. People who are born blind do not see any images, but have dreams equally vivid involving their other senses of sound, smell, touch and emotion. It is hard for a seeing person to imagine, but the body’s need for sleep is so strong that it is able to handle virtually all physical situations to make it happen.
2. You Forget 90% of your Dreams
Within 5 minutes of waking, half of your dream if forgotten. Within 10, 90% is gone. The famous poet, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, woke one morning having had a fantastic dream (likely opium induced) – he put pen to paper and began to describe his “vision in a dream” in what has become one of English’s most famous poems: Kubla Khan. Part way through (54 lines in fact) he was interrupted by a “Person from Porlock“. Coleridge returned to his poem but could not remember the rest of his dream. The poem was never completed. Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein was also the brainchild of a dream.
3. Everybody Dreams
Every human being dreams (except in cases of extreme psychological disorder) but men and women have different dreams and different physical reactions. Men tend to dream more about other men, while women tend to dream equally about men and women.
4. Dreams Prevent Psychosis
In a recent sleep study, students who were awakened at the beginning of each dream, but still allowed their 8 hours of sleep, all experienced difficulty in concentration, irritability, hallucinations, and signs of psychosis after only 3 days. When finally allowed their REM sleep the student’s brains made up for lost time by greatly increasing the percentage of sleep spent in the REM stage.
5. We Only Dream of What We Know
Our dreams are frequently full of strangers who play out certain parts – did you know that your mind is not inventing those faces – they are real faces of real people that you have seen during your life but may not know or remember? The evil killer in your latest dream may be the guy who pumped petrol in to your Dad’s car when you were just a little kid. We have all seen hundreds of thousands of faces through our lives, so we have an endless supply of characters for our brain to utilize during our dreams.
6. Not Everyone Dreams in Color
A full 12% of sighted people dream exclusively in black and white. The remaining number dream in full color. People also tend to have common themes in dreams, which are situations relating to school, being chased, running slowly/in place, sexual experiences, falling, arriving too late, a person now alive being dead, teeth falling out, flying, failing an examination, or a car accident. It is unknown whether the impact of a dream relating to violence or death is more emotionally charged for a person who dreams in color than one who dreams in black and white.
7. Dreams are not about what they are about
If you dream about some particular subject it is not often that the dream is about that. Dreams speak in a deeply symbolic language. The unconscious mind tries to compare your dream to something else, which is similar. Its like writing a poem and saying that a group of ants were like machines that never stop. But you would never compare something to itself, for example: “That beautiful sunset was like a beautiful sunset”. So whatever symbol your dream picks on it is most unlikely to be a symbol for itself.
8. External Stimuli Invade our Dreams
Dream Caused By The Flight Of A Bumblebee Around A Pomegranate A Second Before Awakening
This is called Dream Incorporation and it is the experience that most of us have had where a sound from reality is heard in our dream and incorporated in some way. A similar (though less external) example would be when you are physically thirsty and your mind incorporates that feeling in to your dream. My own experience of this includes repeatedly drinking a large glass of water in the dream which satisfies me, only to find the thirst returning shortly after – this thirst… drink… thirst… loop often recurs until I wake up and have a real drink.
9. You are paralyzed while you sleep
Believe it or not, your body is virtually paralyzed during your sleep – most likely to prevent your body from acting out aspects of your dreams. According to the Wikipedia article on dreaming, “Glands begin to secrete a hormone that helps induce sleep and neurons send signals to the spinal cord which cause the body to relax and later become essentially paralyzed.”
10. When you are snoring, you are not dreaming.

Thank you ustaz for the lovely keychain! It has my name engraved in arabic on it :)
To all females esp, here's a good tip Ustaz shared with us today! Haha. When doing your wudhu, during the time you wash your face, read this dua: Allahumma bayyidh wajhi. Meaning: O Allah, whiten my face :) InsyaAllah, your face will be fairer.. No need whitening cream all ah now :P
Yes Haslina. Rasulullah.. not those geniuses in school. Nor those chasing this world rather than the next. You have a role model who's the best of creation. Follow him..
I'm eating A LOT of chocolate today. Sudden craving for sweet things. Unhealthy much :(
I think biology is an interesting subject actually. When I learn about the things that happen in our body or in nature, the microorganisms and how they function.. It's just amazing. You would be amazed at the speed and accuracy of things that happen inside our body. The DNA system. MasyaAllah. SubhanaAllah :)
“Ketika usaha kita dinilai tidak penting, saat itulah kita belajar tentang KEIKHLASAN. Ketika hati kita terluka sangat dalam, saat itulah kita belajar tentang MEMAAFKAN. Teruslah belajar dari pengalaman, karena kita sedang menimba ILMU KEHIDUPAN. Allah SWT menaruh kita di tempat sekarang ini bukan karena kebetulan. Akan tetapi, DIA punya maksud yang TERINDAH untuk kita.”
— Ibu Dewi Kusumowardhani, a great teacher :)
The first line is an extremely good reminder for myself. MasyaAllah. I havent been sincere at all in my studies. Should I falter after trying so hard, please remind me with that statement...
BN2202 project meeting over MSN yesterday was just EPIC! So funny la.. Hahahaha. Thanks boss for initiating the meeting! I learnt new words and expressions from you yesterday. I feel totally indebted. And I'm proud to say that we have just found our new future PHD student *drum rollllllllllll* CHANGQING! I'm honoured to have known these two smart guys :D And oh yes, lest the other one gets a bit disappointed that he wasnt mentioned, Keith is our future dentist. Except he probably needs to learn to be a bit more gentlemanly esp when it comes to greeting others. (Hitting people's bag is a no-no Keith).
And thanks Shanshan for the touching compliment :') Not forgetting Stacey, our diligent printer. Dehydration test kit 101 wouldn't have been possible without you guys.
Hahahahaha, wah i making speech like that sey. so LIKE A BOSS.
“You keep running after the love of the people, but you’ll never get it. And what you do get, will never be enough. The hole inside you is too big. You see, it was made by God, for God. How could anything less fill it?”
Abd-Allah ibn Mas’ood (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say:
“Allah has cursed the woman who does tattoos and the one who has them done, the woman who plucks eyebrows (al-namisah) and the one who has it done (al-mutanammisah), and the one who files her teeth for the purpose of beauty, altering the creation of Allah.”
Just sharing the knowledge my dear sisters of Islam :)
I love selawat badar :) It always brings tears to my eyes. Makes me think of Rasulullah. I remember the incident in Cambodia. At the girls' orphanage, one girl recited this selawat and my tears just flowed. I turned to look at Soefie then and she cried too. MasyaAllah, peace and blessings be upon our Prophet :)
Engineering is the art of modelling materials we do not wholly understand, into shapes we cannot precisely analyse so as to withstand forces we cannot properly assess, in such a way that the public has no reason to suspect the extent of our ignorance.
Please forgive me if I have been a bad daughter. Im trying my best in uni but Im not achieving much. Pls forgive me for being unable to make you guys proud..
Sept 30, 2000, 11th Memory of Muhammad al-Durrah Martyre
On the second day of the Second Intifada, amid widespread rioting throughout the Palestinian territories. Jamal al-Durrah and his 12-year-old son, Muhammad, were filmed by Talal Abu Rahma, a Palestinian cameraman freelancing for France 2, as they sought cover behind a concrete cylinder after being caught in crossfire between Israeli soldiers and Palestinian security forces. The footage, which lasts just over a minute, shows the pair holding onto each other, the boy crying and the father waving, then a burst of gunfire and dust, after which the boy is seen slumped across his father’s legs.
Muhammed Al-Durrah is 23 years old…in heaven… I am ONLY one among a nation that will NEVER forget..
Don’t ever underestimate du’a. What is the value of du’a? That you are transferring a situation from your power and ability to the power and ability of Allah. You are moving obstacles from yourself to the One who has no obstacles…
I met my angklung coach yesterday at NUS Ilsa Tari concert :) Havent seen him in a long time. He's really a strong man. Not physically but emotionally. I know he waited for 12 years, him and his wife, to get a child but yesterday, when he told me his wife miscarriaged after 5 months, he seemed pretty normal. MasyaAllah. May Allah bless them with another child soon insyaAllah..
He told me something that struck me. I was telling him that I wasn't doing so well in school. And he said, "Pasal tak yakin." I told him it was really difficult. Then he said, "Takpe yakin. Mesti kuat. Allah tu kan Maha Pengasih." :) Subhanallah.. He just gave me a new hope..
Biochemistry lab! I think my teacher assistant (TA) was very amused by me because he laughed at me four times!
Okay well, me and my partner really took a long time to get our readings right. Everyone probably took only one try to get a nice set of readings. We had to take three! We were pretty much frustrated each time we redid the sample. So imagine my excitement when we first got the right set of readings! I practically screamed "YES!" in front of the spectrophotmeter! The TA instantly turned to look at us and laughed.
Then me and my partner, both being very kiasu and kental people, took pictures in the lab! Haha not camwhoring ah pls but pictures of the samples and all. For us like very cool! Never see the type of equipments that we used before also. So while everyone was busy finishing their lab report we were busy taking pictures. Hahaha.. Of course, the TA caught us in action! :P
How a cuvette looks like upclose. It holds our enzyme+protein sample :)
The actual size of the cuvette! So small and cute!
Shall not disclose why the TA laughed at me the other two times. Hahaha.. pretty embarrassing. Another research paper to complete for BN2101! And we only have three weeks! The topics are as usual, so alien to me. There's peristalsis pumping on the digestive system and syncronized waving in ciliated micro-organisms and pulpal vitality etc etc.. I wonder if my group will be as happening as my BN2202 group. Hahaha..
Thank you mama and Abg hafiz for the two new shoes :) Alhamdulillah.. Mama decided to buy me new comfortable shoes cos she say they will make me excited to go to school.. Hahaha.. Hopefully! :P
Yesterday, Prof Nhan reminded us that we are professional engineers-in-training so we should constantly have the mindset of an engineer. It really struck me because I have never thought of myself as an engineer. I have had ambitions of being anything and everything since I was a kid, from an astronaut to an accountant but NEVER an engineer. So it kinda feels surreal that I am in this course. Dr Kim told us that a university education is a privilege and not a right. Thus, I have decided to make full use of the time I have here in NUS and just enjoy the process of learning. It's definitely not easy but looking at it as a privilege has changed my perception. May Allah guide me always and keep me close to Him, insyaAllah..
If the first inward thought is not warded off, it will generate a desire. The desire will generate a wish, the wish will generate an intention, the intention will generate an action, and the action will result in ruin, and divine wrath. So evil must be cut off at its root, which is when it is simply a thought that crosses the mind.
We have, as human beings, a storytelling problem. We're a bit too quick to come up with explanations for things we don't really have an explanation for.
